Doddington Road Cemetery and Lodge, Wellingborough

Doddington Road Cemetery, in Wellingborough, NN8 2JH, is managed by North Northamptonshire Council. The site was secured in 1900, but the laying out of the cemetery was not commenced until 1903. It was formally opened in May 1906. The Northampton Mercury reported:

The new cemetery on Doddington Road was formally opened on Thursday afternoon by Mr E Lack, ex-chairman of the Urban District Council and chairman of the Cemetery Committee of that body. A service of dedication, in which the Nonconformist ministers of the town took part, was also held. A numerous company assembled near the main entrance on Doddington Road to witness the opening proceedings, which at this point were conducted Mr Hedger Edwards, J.P. (Chairman of the Urban District Council). The Chairman, in a few introductory sentences, called upon Mr E Lack to formally open the cemetery, and that gentleman, having unlocked the gate, the company entered the ground, and from the porch of the caretaker's lodge a little speech-making took place. A vote of thanks to Mr Lack for opening the cemetery having been accorded, the company proceeded to the chapel, where a dedicatory service was held.

This OS map was surveyed in 1923 to 1924.

I believe that until recently administration for the cemetery was at conducted at the Lodge, but the lodge is now empty and the council are advertising for tenants. However, this is not a residential property.

The Lodge was listed on Rightmove in August 2025 as a new commercial lease on flexible terms at £8,000 per annum, plus some relatively minor costs. The agents, Underwoods, said that the property comprised two storey office accommodation with WC and kitchen facilities, parking spaces, and water, gas, drainage and electricity connected.
