Scartho Road Cemetery and Lodge, Grimsby

Scartho Road Cemetery and Lodge, Grimsby

Grimsby (Scartho Road) Cemetery opened in 1889. The cemetery contains 281 scattered burials from the First World War, many of whom were seamen who served with the Auxiliary Patrol operating out of Grimsby. Included in this number are special memorials to three individuals originally interred in Grimsby Old Cemetery, whose graves could no longer be maintained.

The cemetery also contains 258 burials from the Second World War, nearly 200 of which are located within a designated war graves plot. During WW2, vessels of the Grimsby fishing fleet were subjected to attacks at sea, and both the town and its port experienced repeated bombings, resulting in casualties among both military personnel and civilians. In addition, there are 17 war burials of other nationalities, many of whom were German prisoners of war from the nearby camp at Weelsby.

The Cemetery address is Scartho Road, Grimsby, North East Lincolnshire, DN33 2DF. The Lodge postcode is DN33 2AN.

At the time of posting, Scartho Cemetery Lodge is partially refurbished after a substantial restoration project, and up for sale through PPH Commercial at Offers in Excess of £275,000.
